Hope Memorial Bridge From Afar

The Hope Memorial Bridge.  I thought this was a good view of the bridge. If I had used a telephoto lens, it might have been.  What looks good when you take a picture of it and what the actual photo looks like is often different.

This is not really a difficult photo to shoot. It was taken from Progressive Field, where the Cleveland Indians play. The people who work at the stadium were invited to watch a scrimmage with the team playing against themselves. It was cancelled due to rain and the attraction of free pizza and other munchies was not enough to keep people at the stadium. After munching on several slices of pizza,  I went to the top deck of the stadium and snapped a few photos.

Swing Bridge

This bridge is unique. It does not go up-and-down. It swings to the side to let boats pass.

I took a few more photos  but have not uploaded them yet.  It is fun to watch unless you are sitting in a vehicle waiting for the vessel to pass.

High-Low Bridge

Cleveland Ohio Bridges. What inspired this blog was watching as one of the High-low bridges  went up to let a boat pass under it. Looking at one of the figures carved on the Hope Memorial Bridge that was named for William Hope, father of comedian Bob Hope, who carved them was not the inspiration.

This country has some interesting bridges. This makes me think of them. It seems the most interesting bridges go over water. In Cleveland, especially the well-known bridges, bridge a gap.
A fraction of the Detroit-Superior Bridge does go over the Cuyahoga River.

When I took these photographs, I tried to take them at some different angles. My effort did not work. When I took the pictures, what I saw, looked okay. After they were printed and I went through them, there were only a few I liked.

Before I go back and take some more pictures, this is what I have.
The bridges that go up-and-down or swing to the side interested me.
Cleveland, Ohio, has a  few other bridges. Two of them are pictured
at this blog.

Bridges in "The Flats" in Cleveland, Ohio, usually go up-and-down.Whether it is a freighter, a pleasure cruise such as The Goodtime II,  or another vessel,  the bridges usually go up-and-down to make room for the boat. Gates

go down, traffic is stopped, the road is raised, and the vessel passes.

Hope Memorial Bridge

The Hope Memorial Bridge. From this view you are able to see the "Guardians of Traffic carvings that motorists and pedestrians see when entering or leaving the bridge.  This bridge connects Carnegie Avenue with Lorain Avenue.  It spans an area known as "The Flats."

The sculpture of the "Guardians of Traffic" was made by Cleveland stone mason William Hope, father of comedian Bob Hope. The bridge was renamed to honor William Hope.

This is not a typical view of the bridge.

This photo was taken to include the bridge and the figures carved by Hope.

Detroit-Superior Bridge

This is the Detroit-Superior Bridge. It is also known as the Veteran's Memorial Bridge. Beneath it is the Cuyahoga River and an area known as "The Flats." It is in Cleveland,
Ohio, and is near Lake Erie.

This bridge interests me because it connects Superior Avenue with  Detroit Avenue and W.25th Street. According to a for high crime areas, Detroit Avenue and W.25th Street make the list. That area is in the background of this photo. That is interesting to know because when shooting pictures for this blog, I rode my bike in that area.  It was broad daylight when I did it, but I was not fearful.

clevelandbridges.blogspot.com The area on the other side of the bridge, along Superior, is more upscale. It has some nice restaurants on the side streets.
